The Hearts broke the game open with a six-run seventh, combining six hits and a hit batter.
The nightcap was a much tighter game. The Trojans had single tallies in the second and third, but the Hearts tied the game by scoring runs in the fourth and fifth.
With one out in the fourth, Hull singled, went to second on a ground out and scored on a base hit by Myles Maxedon. EHS scored the tying run in the fifth. Nichols walked with one out, stole second and raced home on an RBI single by Harper.
Charleston then used a single, a hit batter and RBI double to score what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the fifth.
Braydon Pals turned in six strong innings, but took the loss. He allowed six hits and three runs, while walking two and striking out 11.
The Hearts are now 11-9 over and 4-6 in the conference. They will return to action Monday with a game at Teutopolis. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
