St. Anthony High School senior Grace Hakman has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Kaskaskia College in Centralia. Grace was the only girl on the St. Anthony soccer squad last season. The St. Anthony soccer team kicked off the postseason in impressive fashion Saturday, posting a 7-0 victory over Vandalia in a first-round game of the Teutopolis Class 1A Regional.
The Bulldogs will now face the host Wooden Shoes at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The winner of that match will play for the regional championship at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Luke Swingler recorded a “hat trick” by scoring three goals for T-Town. Will Swingler added two goals, while Jack Elder and Reilly Ashton each had a goal. Will Swingler had two assists in the contest, while Luke Swingler, Elder, Ashton and Kevin Gonzalez also recorded assists.
The Bulldogs improved to 8-11-2 on the season.
Reilly Ashton scored two first-half goals, sparking the St. Anthony Bulldogs to an early lead, en route to a 4-2 soccer victory at home Thursday over Faith Bible Christian Academy.
Jack Elder also scored in the closing minutes of the opening half, staking the Bulldogs to a 3-1 lead at intermission. After Faith Bible closed to within 3-2, Elder made a terrific pass to Luke Swingler, who found the back of the net for the goal that sealed the win.
Will Fonner and Grace Hakman were credited with playing strong defensive games and goalie Ivan Dong had six saves.
The Bulldogs improved to 6-10-2 on the season. They will play Saturday at Champaign Centennial.
The St. Anthony soccer team celebrated Senior Night in winning style Tuesday, posting a 4-0 shutout over Christ Our Rock.
Jack Elder had two goals, while Reilly Ashton and Luke Swingler both added goals to lead the Bulldogs attack. Swingler also had two assists, while Ashton and Wade Lawrence had one each.
The Bulldogs will open postseason action Friday. They will play Vandalia in an opening-round game of the Teutopolis Class 1A Regional. That match is scheduled for 4 p.m. The winner will advance to face Teutopolis at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15.
Reilly Ashton and Jack Elder both scored two goals Tuesday, leading the St. Anthony Bulldogs to a 4-0 victory at Arthur.
Will Swingler had two assists in the match, while goalie Ivan Dong had seven saves in recording the shutout. Grace Hakman and Will Fonner turned in key defensive efforts in the victory.
The Bulldogs also won the junior varsity match, 1-0.
St. Anthony will return to action Thursday at home against Faith Bible Christian Academy.
