“Brady can do that on any given day,” Kreke noted. “He certainly provides more opportunities for us. He’s put in a lot of work. He’s already had a good season, but I think he’s ready to take off and do even more.”
All three of the home runs were hit off Teutopolis starter Garret Gaddis, who lasted five innings. The lefty gave up just six hits, but four errors accounted for four unearned runs.
“Overall, I thought Garrett pitched pretty decent,” THS coach Justin Fleener said. “He made some good pitches to get guys out, but he left a couple pitches in the wrong place and they put a good barrel on it.
“St. Anthony has a very good team,” Fleener added. “To ask anybody to shut down a lineup like that is going to be tough to do.”
Both teams added one more run in the sixth inning. The Shoes got a sacrifice fly from Mick Niebrugge. The Bulldogs got base hits by Adams and Fearday and Adams eventually scored on a THS error.
Fearday allowed only five hits in his 87-pitch, complete game performance. He walked one and struck out four and improved to 5-0 on the season.
“Holding your rival to just two runs, I’d call that an ‘A’ performance,” Kreke said. “He got ahead of most of the hitters and stayed around the strike zone the whole game. When Brock is able to do that, he can usually force some weak contact.”
“Any pitcher that has the ability to change speeds, move the ball in and out and throw 83 to 85 (mph) at the high school level is going to be tough to hit,” Fleener added. “I thought he located all three of his pitches well. He’s a very good pitcher.”
Both teams have been playing well.
The Shoes, who dropped to 12-6, had won seven of their last eight entering Tuesday’s contest.
“I think our guys are getting better at the plate and we’ve been getting solid pitching,” Fleener noted. “We’ve been coming along alright. I like where we’re headed.”
The Bulldogs are now 12-1.
“I’m very pleased,” Kreke said. “Our hitting has been lacking a little, but we’re still scoring runs. Our pitching has been pretty strong. I’m looking for guys to step up for our No. 3, 4 and 5 spots. I like where we’re at right now.”
The Shoes will return to action Thursday with a home game against Mt. Zion.
St. Anthony will play again at home today (Wednesday) against Charleston.
