Knoxville 48; Mattoon 39
The Knoxville Blue Bullets were a late addition to the 16-team field after Champaign St. Thomas More had to pull out due to COVID issues.
They made the most out of the opportunity.
Knoxville built a 12-6 lead after the first period and was never headed, finishing with a 48-39 win over Mattoon, who was playing without starter Sam Bradbury.
The Blue Bullets led 26-18 at halftime and 36-28 after three periods.
David Hise paced Knoxville with a game-high 22 points, while Cooper Bergstro led Mattoon with 13.
Mattoon will play Horizon Science Academy at 9 a.m. today (Wednesday).
Knoxville will face Oak Lawn at noon.
Both games are at Effingham High School.
Game 4
Oak Lawn 80; Horizon Science Academy 17
This game was never in doubt.
Oak Lawn raced to a 25-2 lead and rolled to the lopsided 63-point win, 80-17.
The Spartans expanded their lead to 54-8 at halftime and costed into the quarterfinals over the small school from Chicago.
Twelve different players scored for Oak Lawn. Davion Lawrence led the way with 11 points and Ayham Salah added 10. No player had over four points for the Huskies.
Horizon Science Academy will play Mattoon at 9 a.m. today (Wednesday).
Oak Lawn will face Knoxville at noon.
Both games are at Effingham High School.
Game 5
Newton 55; Charleston 42
The Newton Eagles fell behind early, but rallied for a 55-42 win over Charleston in the third game of the day in Teutopolis.
The Trojans led 15-6 after the first eight minutes and 20-9 early in the second period. But the Eagles rallied to get within 27-24 at halftime and then outscored Charleston 17-7 in the third quarter to take the lead and never relinquished it.
Parker Wolf and Ben Meinhart both scored 11 points to lead Newton, while William Applegate and Jackson Burgess scored 13 and 10 points respectively for the Trojans.
Charleston will play Lutheran North at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday).
Newton will face Teutopolis at 1:30 p.m.
Both games are at Teutopolis High School.
Game 6
Chicago Brooks 79; Belvidere 40
Brooks raced to a 23-4 lead and never looked back, finishing with an impressive 79-40 win over Belvidere.
The Eagles increased their lead to 49-17 at halftime and coasted to the win.
Brooks had five players reach double figures. Jerrett Moore led the way with 19 points, while Oltimi Taiwo scored 13, Anthony Vaval 12 and both Kendall Larry and Joaquin Cassell added 10. Isaiah Dodson led Belvidere with 10 points.
Belvidere will play Dixon at 10:30 a.m. (Wednesday).
Chicago Brooks will face Effingham at 1:30 p.m.
Both games are at Effingham High School.
