Lutheran North 77; Charleston 62
Bryce Spiller pumped in 30 points to lead the Lutheran North Crusaders to a 77-62 win over Charleston.
The Crusaders took a 22-9 lead after the first period and were never headed.
Spiller made 12-of-22 shots overall, including a three-pointer. Davell Long scored 19 points and Izy Prude added 11 for Lutheran North. Charleston had four players in double figures – Will Applegate with 16, Caleb Oakley 14, James Hess 13 and Luke Bonnstetter 11.
The Trojans will now face Mattoon in the 11th place game at 10 a.m. Friday in the main gym. Lutheran North and Highland will meet for the consolation championship at 4:30 p.m.
Highland 53; Mattoon 51
In one of the closest games of the tournament, the Highland Bulldogs got by Mattoon by a score of 53-51.
The Green Wave led 17-12 after the first period, but Highland was within 27-25 at halftime and then led 41-38 heading into the final quarter.
Cade Altadonna pace the Bulldogs with a game-high 20 points. Grant Fleming scored 11 and Cade Altadonna added 10. Christian Larson led Mattoon with 14 points, while Colton Smith scored 13 and Andrew Wetzel chipped in with 11.
Highland will now play Lutheran North for the consolation championship at 4:30 p.m. Friday, while Mattoon will face Charleston in the 11th place game at 10 a.m.
Dixon 50; Belvidere 28
The Dixon Dukes built a 14-point lead at halftime, en route to a 50-28 victory over Belvidere.
Dixon led 24-11 at intermission and increased its margin to 44-26 after three quarters.
Austin Hicks had 11 points and Grant Boss added 10 for the Dukes. David Guererro and Ryan Beaudet had 11 and 10 points respectively for Belvidere.
Belvidere will now face Knoxville at 10 a.m. Friday and Dixon will play Newton at 11:30 a.m. Both of those games are the EHS auxiliary gym.
Chicago Brooks 57; Oak Lawn 53
Chicago Brooks built a 14-point halftime lead and then hung on for a 57-53 win over Oak Lawn.
The Eagles led 21-14 after the opening eight minutes and stretched it to 38-24 at intermission. The Spartans made a good comeback, but still fell short.
Herman Wilkerson had 16 points and Antoine Young added 10 for Brooks. Corey Lee scored 13 points, while Robert Wagner had 11 and Ayham Salah added 10 for the Spartans.
Oak Lawn will play Effingham in the 11th place game at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Brooks will now face Champaign Centennial at 3 p.m. in the fifth place game.
Newton 52; Knoxville 38
Dylan Gier scored 23 points to lead the Newton Eagles to a 52-38 victory over Knoxville.
Knoxville led early and was on top 13-10 after the first eight minutes. But the Eagles outscored the Blue Bullets 36-17 over the next two quarters to build a 46-30 lead heading into the fourth period.
In addition to Gier, Caden Nichols also cracked double figures for Newton, finishing with 13 points. Braden Downs scored a game-high 28 points for Knoxville.
Newton will now play Dixon in the 13th place game at 11:30 a.m. Friday, while Knoxville will face Belvidere in the 15th place game at 10 a.m. Both of those games are in the EHS auxiliary gym.
