Cannon Bockhorn and Cole Phillips combined to score 21 points in the second half Thursday night, helping the Effingham Hearts come from behind and earn a 50-46 victory at Taylorville in the Apollo Conference opener for both teams.

The Hearts trailed 21-12 at halftime. But Bockhorn knocked down three shots from behind the arc and Phillips added five points, as Effingham went on a 20-14 run in the third quarter to close to within 35-32.

In the final eight minutes, KJ Kellams scored five points, Phillips added four and Brady McDaniel hit a big three, as the Hearts completed the comeback, outscoring the host Tornadoes 18-11.

Phillips finished with a game-high 13 points, while Bockhorn scored 12 and Kellams added 10.

The Hearts improved to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference. They will now compete in the Marion Shootout on Saturday. They are scheduled to face Carbondale at 3 p.m.
