This one was over quick.
The Effingham Lady Hearts broke out to a 24-2 lead and then coasted to a 69-10 victory at home Thursday night over Mattoon in a lopsided Apollo Conference game.
Tessa Raddatz knocked down a pair of three-pointers and Averie Wolfe and Bria Beals also connected from behind the arc, helping the Lady Hearts build the big early lead.
And the margin only continued to grow after the first eight minutes. By halftime, EHS owned a 42-4 advantage and it was 58-12 heading into the fourth period. The continuously running clock kicked in during those final eight minutes.
Effingham had a balanced scoring attack. Wolfe and Alyssa Martin were in double figures, scoring 11 and 10 points respectively. Raddatz and Sidney Donaldson both scored nine and Hannah Thompson had eight.
The win put the Lady Hearts at the 20-win plateau. They are now 20-5 overall and 6-1 in the Apollo. They will return to action tonight (Friday) at Teutopolis and then play Saturday at Mahomet-Seymour. Tonight’s game in T-Town will feature two of the best teams in the state. The Lady Shoes enter with an 18-6 record.
