A basket by Nate Thompson and two free throws by Drew Thompson gave the Hears a 15-8 edge at the end of the opening period.
Nate Thompson scored seven points in the second quarter and Parker Wolfe connected on a 3-pointer just before the end of the first half, giving EHS a 29-19 advantage at intermission.
Wolfe then put on a shooting clinic in the third quarter. The junior guard was 5-for-5, including four from behind the arc. His 14 points helped the Hearts take complete control. It sparked a 13-4 run that ultimately ended with a 49-30 lead heading into the final quarter.
“Parker has been our constant,” Farmer said. “Even if he’s not shooting well, he can get to the basket and either score or get shots for someone else. When that kid gets going, it’s hard to stop him. If he gets in a groove, watch out. You saw that tonight.”
It was a 15-point margin when the Hearts ran off the final 10 points of the contest to seal the victory.
Wolfe finished with six 3-pointers and a game-high 28 points. Nate Thompson scored 15 and Drew Thompson added 12. Brayden Pals pulled down a game-high seven rebounds and helped the Hearts to a commanding 22-10 edge on the boards.
Effingham shot 55 percent overall, connecting on 22-of-40 shots. The Hearts were 8-for-17 from long range and 11-of-16 at the free throw line. Defensively, they forced PBL into 20 turnovers.
Effingham, now 16-10 on the season, will play Tuesday at Mt. Vernon and Friday at home against Mattoon.
