The Effingham soccer team opened its 2019 fall season in winning style Wednesday, posting a 2-0 victory over Charleston in a first-round match of the Red & Gold Tournament, played in Charleston.

Armando Estrada Angel and Victor Carillo both scored goals for the Hearts and goalie Brandon Duncan had eight saves in the shutout.

The soccer tournament will continue Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Charleston.
