Keagyn Koenig was hit by a pitch and Alyssa Martin grounded a base hit to leftfield to get the uprising started. With one out, Saige Althoff walked to load the bases. The first run scored when a return throw to the pitcher was off-target and actually rolled into the outfield, allowing Koenig to score.

Jerzi Bierman followed with a sacrifice fly. After Engel drew a walk, Donaldson lined a double down the rightfield line, driving in two runs, and giving the Lady Hearts a 5-1 lead.

Bierman’s RBI double in the third made it a five-run advantage and then EHS broke it open in the fifth.

With one out, Madi Kirk and Althoff both singled. One out later, Engel drove a 2-0 pitch over the 200-foot sign in left field to make it 9-1.

Donaldson then got her third hit and Raddatz drove her in with double into the right-centerfield gap. Mya Harvey followed with another a single, but Faber’s perfect throw home prevented the game-ending run to score.

St. Anthony refused to give up and posted a four-run frame of its own in the sixth.

Ady Rios singled, stole second and went to third on an infield hit by Lilly Gannaway. Rios scored on a double steal and Gannaway crossed the plate on an error. After Ava Walton walked, Faber lined an RBI double and Jackie Vonderheide brought her home with a run-scoring single.

In addition to Donaldson’s three hits, Bierman, Engel and Kirk each had a pair. St. Anthony got two hits apiece from Rios and Gannaway.

Nancy Ruholl was the starting pitched for the Lady Bulldogs and took the loss.

Saige Althoff went the distance for Effingham. She allowed five runs on seven hits. She had three walks and five strikeouts.

The Lady Hearts improved to 21-6 and the Lady Bulldogs dipped to 12-12.

Game 3 will be played at 4 p.m. on Friday at the EHS diamond.
