The Effingham girls tennis team made the drive up I-57 Tuesday to face Mattoon in a tennis match.
The host Lady Green Wave posted a 7-2 decision.

No. 1 singles: Emily Stortzum (M) defeated Caroline Kull (E), 6-1, 6-4; No. 2 singles: Tess Huene (M) defeated Riley Arend (E), 6-1, 6-2; No. 3 singles: Hallie Niemerg (M) defeated Lydia Kull (E), 6-0, 6-1; No. 4 singles: Riley Seachrist (E) defeated Caroline Davis (M), 5-7, 6-2, 10-8; No. 5 singles: Eden Wendling (E) defeated Kambelle Ashmore (M), 2-6, 6-0, 12-10; No. 6 singles: Canyn Borntreger (M) defeated Chloe Aden (E), 6-2, 6-1; No. 1 doubles: Stortzum/Huene (M) defeated C. Kull/L. Kull (E), 6-0, 6-2; No. 2 doubles: Niemerg/Davis (M) defeated Arend/Seachrist (E), 7-5, 3-6, 13-11; No. 3 doubles: Ashmore/Destanee Garza (M) defeated Grace Kroenlein/Aila Woomer (E), 6-2, 6-3.
“The girls played some very competition tennis tonight,” said EHS coach Erik Williamson. “Our youth showed in some matches, but so did our grit. Riley Seachrist and Eden Wendelin both came back after being down a set to win in a tiebreaker. We are looking forward to improving and competing at all levels throughout the season.”
Effingham will play Friday and Saturday in the Edwardsville Invitational.
