The Effingham Lady Hearts went 3-1 and finished in third place Saturday at the Charleston Invitational.

Effingham defeated Decatur MacArthur 25-23, 25-18, and Carbondale 25-22, 25-15 to reach the semifinal rounds. The Lady Hearts then dropped a 19-25, 16-25 match to Highland, but bounced back to beat Teutopolis in the third place contest. The scores were 26-24, 25-16.

Effingham’s Sam Urch and Jacy Boatman were selected to the all-tournament team.

“We played pretty well,” said EHS coach Laurie Bohnhoff. “Jacy dominated the first two matches and Sam blocked well and had a high hitting percentage. Defensively, we played hard and didn’t give up on anything. Olivia and Lexi both had good days in the back row.”

For the Lady Hearts, Eliza Montgomery had 3 kills, 1 assist, 1 dig and 5 blocks; Brueklyn Belcher 1 dig; Taylor O’Dell 3 assists, 2 digs; Hayley Dively 2 kills, 64 assists, 7 aces, 9 digs, 1 block; Alexis Chrappa 22 kills, 1 ace, 30 digs, 1 block; Kennedy Sowell 10 kills, 2 digs, 4 blocks; Sam Urch 17 kills, 2 assists, 6 aces, 8 digs, 8 blocks; Jacy Boatman 25 kills, 1 assist, 11 aces, 32 digs, 1 block; Morgan Hagler 4 aces, 7 digs; Olivia Martin 2 kills, 5 assists and 31 digs.

Effingham, now 9-7 on the season, will play at home Tuesday against Mahomet-Seymour.
