Beau Adams and Brody Niebrugge drove in the go-ahead runs and Brady Hatton came in to record the final two outs, helping the St. Anthony Bulldogs post a 5-3 win Thursday at Neoga.
The host Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead on first-inning RBI singles by Ryan Koester and Bryar Hennesey.
But the Bulldogs started their comeback in the third.
Brock Jansen and Will Hoene walked and Adams singled to load the bases with one out. Niebrugge’s ground ball brought home the first run and Colton Fearday singled to tie the game at 2-2.
St. Anthony took the lead in the fourth. Hatton reached on an error with one out and then Jansen singled and Angelo Mendella walked to load the bases again. Adams and Niebrugge then followed with RBI singles to put the Bulldogs on top to stay, 4-2.
SAHS added its final run in the fifth when Eli Levitt ripped a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hatton.
The Indians trimmed the gap to 5-3 when Luke Rowack delivered a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth.
Neoga then threatened in the seventh. Brady Reynolds led off with a base hit and Rowack walked with one out. Hatton then came on in relief and retired the next two batters on a fly ball and a pop up to preserve the victory and earn the save.
Eli Link pitched the first four innings for the Bulldogs and got the win. He allowed three hits and two unearned runs, while striking out three. He didn’t walk a batter. Jansen pitched the fifth and Brock Fearday went 1.1 innings before Hatton came on to close out the game.
The Bulldogs improved to 8-2 on the season. They will return to action Monday at home against Ramsey.
