The St. Anthony boys golf team competed Saturday in the Marquette Catholic Schools Invitational and placed fifth in a very talented eight-team field.
Quincy Notre Dame was the team champion with a 309 total. The Bulldogs had 340 total strokes in the event played at Spencer T. Olin Golf Club.
“There was excellent competition at this event,” said St. Anthony coach Phil Zaccari. “Spencer T. Olin is a course you need to play a couple times and we were not familiar with the layout. We struggled a little not knowing where to play our next shot, but we grinded and competed pretty well.”
Ryan Schultz led the Bulldogs with an 18-hole score of 82. Jonathan Willenborg finished with an 85, Michael Martelli 86 and Thomas Chojnicki 87 to complete the team scoring. Luke Flaig (88) and Jayden Rios (90) also played.
“Every player had one or two bad holes that elevated our scores,” Zaccari noted. “We learned a lot about where we are and what we need to do the remainder of the year.”
St. Anthony will play Tuesday at Shelbyville.
