St. Anthony hosted a quadrangular golf match Tuesday afternoon and posted an easy victory.

The Bulldogs had four golfers shoot sub-40 rounds at Fox Prairie Golf Course to finish with a 150 total, 44 shots ahead of the second place finisher. Shelbyville shot 194, followed by Okaw Valley at 219 and Meridian at 223.

Luke Flaig was medalist with a 36, followed by Thomas Chojnicki 37, Ryan Schultz 38 and Jayden Rios 39. Also playing were Michael Martelli (40), Jonathan Willenborg (41), Darin Hutchison (42) and Aidan Tegeler (47).

“We played probably our best round of golf to date,” said St. Anthony coach Phil Zaccari. “It is not often that we get to throw out a 40 and a 41. Senior Luke Flaig played a solid even par round. We’ve been waiting for him to get it going. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come.

“Thomas Chojnicki also played great, recording a personal best 1 over par,” Zaccari added. “Thomas has been pretty consistent. Overall, it was a great team performance.”

The Bulldogs improved to 4-0 in match play.

St. Anthony, along with Effingham and Teutopolis, will play Friday and Saturday in the Mattoon Invitational.
