After the season-opening loss to Tolono Unity, the St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs have proved to be unbeatable.
They stretched their winning streak to nine Wednesday afternoon after posting a 9-2 decision at Charleston.
During that nine-game stretch, SAHS has received strong pitching from both Lucy Fearday and Sydney Kibler and has scored 92 runs, an average of 10 per game.
It was Fearday’s turn on the mound Wednesday. She scattered seven hits and allowed two runs, while walking two and striking out six during her seven-inning, 114-pitch outing.
At the plate, the Lady Bulldogs scored a single tally in the first and then added a pair of four-run frames in the third and fifth.
Cameron Rios, who led off the game with a double and scored St. Anthony’s first run in the opening inning, had a lead-off single again in the third. Hailey Niebrugge walked and Fearday then drove in the first run of the inning with an RBI single. Ava Faber added a run-scoring single, plus an error and a wild pitch accounted for the other two runs.
The Lady Trojans committed five errors in the game and the Lady Bulldogs took advantage, scoring five unearned runs. Two of those errors helped SAHS tally four more times in the fifth. They also had three hits, including Faber’s second RBI single and a two-run double by Abbi Hatton.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 9-1 on the season. They will return home Friday to face Freeburg.
