Scoring 21 runs in an entire softball game doesn’t happen very often.
But in a single inning?
That’s exactly what the St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs did Monday afternoon.
They sent 25 hitters to the plate and combined 12 hits, three walks, five hit batters and two errors to push 21 runners across the plate and then cruised to a 24-1 win at Brownstown/St. Elmo.
Abbi Hatton belted a pair of three-run homers, while Hailey Niebrugge had two doubles and three RBI, and Addie Wernsing also had two hits and drove home three – all in that massive first-inning explosion.
Nancy Ruholl was the winning pitcher.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 13-2. They will play today (Tuesday) at Mattoon.
