Three pitchers combined to throw a three-hitter and Maddie Kibler belted a home run Monday afternoon, leading the St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs to a 9-0 shutout at home over Altamont.
Lucy Fearday pitched the first four innings to get the win. She struck out eight, walked just one and allowed only two hits. Stacie Vonderheide then went two innings and Sydney Kibler pitched the seventh to complete the shutout. They combined to allow just one hit and one walk while striking out five.
The pitchers received plenty of support, as the Lady Bulldogs scored in four different innings. They scored a single tally in the first, added two more runs in the third and then got a two-run homer from Maddie Kibler in the fourth to increase their lead to 5-0.
St. Anthony wrapped things up with a four-run fifth. The Lady Bulldogs had four hits in the inning, including a run-scoring single by Wernsing and RBI doubles by Fearday and Maddie Kibler.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 14-7 on the season. They will return to action today (Tuesday). They will face Windsor/Stew-Straws in the championship game of the National Trail Conference Softball Tournament. That game is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. at Evergreen Hollow Park in Effingham.
