A three by Ruholl and a bucket by Vonderheide helped the Lady Bulldogs knot the game at 30-30 at the 6:41 mark of the third period. But St. Anthony didn’t score for the rest of the quarter, while Mattoon rattled off 13 unanswered points.
Conyers had another three-pointer, plus the Lady Green Wave scored three baskets after SAHS turnovers. Heading into the final period, Mattoon was on top, 43-20.
In the opening 3½ minutes of the fourth quarter, MHS completed a 19-3 run and expanded the lead to 49-33. The largest deficit was 19 points, 53-34, midway through the period. It completed a 31-9 scoring advantage over a 14-minute span after St. Anthony had that three-point edge late in the first half.
Maple and Larson led the Lady Green Wave, both finishing with 14 points. Mattoon improved to 12-1.
Vonderheide led all scorers with 16 points, while Ruholl finished with 11. Both teams turned the ball over 20 times.
The Lady Bulldogs dipped to 9-5 on the season. They were scheduled to play Mahomet-Seymour Thursday afternoon. They will also play two games Friday.
