St. Anthony left no doubt who the best team in the National Trail Conference was this year.
The Bulldogs used a big third quarter to pull away and post a 60-42 victory at home Friday night over Dieterich in the NTC Champions Night Shootout, matching the top two teams in the conference.
St. Anthony captured the regular season title with a 50-30 win at North Clay on Wednesday. The Bulldogs then completed a perfect conference season by disposing of Dieterich.
In the first meeting between these two schools, St. Anthony dominated and posted a lopsided 60-30 decision. It was clear, especially in the first half, it wasn’t going to be so easy Friday night.
The Bulldogs held a slim 13-11 lead after the first eight minutes and were on top 28-19 at intermission. But they got it going in the third quarter.
Ty Wiedman knocked down a pair of three-pointers and scored eight points, while Grant Nuxoll and Craig Croy added four apiece and Kennan Walsh chipped in with another from long range. All that helped the Bulldogs go on a 24-14 scoring spree that increased their margin to 52-33 heading into the fourth quarter.
Three Bulldogs finished in double figures. Logan Antrim led the way with 14 points, while Wiedman and Nuxoll both finished with 11.
St. Anthony completed the season with an 11-4 overall record. They finished a perfect 8-0 in the National Trail Conference.
Coach Cody Rincker will now say goodbye to 10 seniors – Landon Adams, Logan Antrim, Seth Hotze, Eli Moore, Grant Nuxoll, Justin Ruholl, James Schuette, Kennan Walsh, Ty Wiedman and Mick Willenborg.
