St. Anthony opened play Thursday night in the National Trail Conference Volleyball Tournament by splitting two matches.
The Lady Bulldogs lost their opener to Altamont, but bounced back to beat North Clay to finish 1-1 in pool play. They will now play in the Silver Pool on Saturday. St. Anthony will play at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. at The Enlow Center.
In the first match, Altamont won in two games. The scores were 25-8, 27-25.
For St. Anthony, Elizabeth Kabbes had 2 aces, 3 points; Stella Passalacqua 2 kills, 1 block; Taylor Ritz 1 kill, 1 ace, 6 points; Lucy Fearday 5 kills, 1 block, 1 points; Kyra Swearingen 13 assists, 4 points; and Ada Rozene 6 kills, 2 blocks, 2 points.
The Lady Bulldogs then bounced back to defeat North Clay 25-15, 25-16.
For SAHS, Kabbes had 1 ace, 7 points; Claire Scheidemantel 1 kill, 1 point; Passalacqua 5 kills; Ritz 4 kills, 1 point; Fearday 3 kills, 3 aces, 2 blocks, 10 points; Swearingen 2 aces, 17 assists, 2 points; Rozene 4 kills, 1 ace; and Rileigh Haarmann 2 kills, 1 block.
St. Anthony’s Enlow Center and Goff Gym will be the sites of the 2019 National Trail Conference Volleyball Tournament, scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The nine league teams have been divided into three pools.
Altamont, North Clay and St. Anthony are in Pool A; Windsor/Stew-Stras, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Dieterich are in Pool B; and South Central, St. Elmo/Brownstown and Neoga are in Pool C.
Play will open Thursday at the Enlow Center. Here is the schedule:
5 p.m. – Altamont vs. St. Anthony
6 p.m. – North Clay vs. St. Anthony
7 p.m. – Altamont vs. North Clay.
Play will then resume Friday at both locations.

The Enlow Center will be the site for all matches Saturday.
The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs dropped a close three-game volleyball match Thursday night at Cisne.
After dropping the opening game 25-22, the Lady Bulldogs bounced back to win 25-15. But in the deciding game, Cisne prevailed 27-25.
For St. Anthony, Elizabeth Kabbes had 3 aces and 9 points; Stella Passalacqua 2 kills; Kate Harte 2 aces, 5 points; Taylor Ritz 5 kills, 1 point; Lucy Fearday 15 kills, 1 ace, 1 block, 2 points; Taylor Quandt 2 aces, 9 points; Kyra Swearingen 1 ace, 25 assists, 6 points; and Ada Rozene 8 kills, 1 ace, 1 block and 4 points.
Cisne also won the junior varsity contest. The scores were 25-18, 19-25, 13-15.
The Lady Bulldogs will play at home Monday against Vandalia.
The St. Anthony volleyball team dropped two close games Monday night at home against Vandalia.
The scores were 23-25, 19-25.

Vandalia also won the junior varsity and freshman matches. The scores in the JV contest were 25-15, 25-23. The scores in the freshman match were 25-19, 25-14.
The Lady Bulldogs will host the National Trail Conference Tournament, beginning Thursday.
