The Teutopolis Lady Shoes opened postseason play in impressive fashion Monday afternoon, posting a 9-2 win at home over Shelbyville in a first-round game of the Class 2A Tolono Unity Regional.
Daisha Piedra went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs and Kaylee Niebrugge added three hits and three RBI, helping the Lady Shoes notch their 20th win of the season and earn a berth in the regional semifinal game.
T-Town, the No. 5 seed, will now face No. 4 Westville at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The regional championship is set for 10 a.m. Saturday.
The Lady Shoes scored single tallies in the first and third to take the early lead. Piedra had an RBI double in the opening inning and added a run-scoring single in the third.
THS then took total control with a four-run fifth. Erin Althoff led off with a double and came home to score on a base hit by Emily Konkel. Niebrugge then delivered an RBI double, Piedra followed with a single to drive in Niebrugge and the final run scored on a sacrifice fly by Danielle Sarchet.
The Lady Shoes wrapped up the scoring in the sixth. Niebrugge drove in two with a base hit and Piedra capped her four-hit game with an RBI triple.
Courtney Gibson was strong on the mound. She went all seven innings, allowing just three hits and two runs, both scoring in the sixth. She walked three and struck out eight.
