T-Town added single tallies in the second on a passed ball and another in the fourth on a run-scoring double by Mitch Hardiek.
The Bulldogs got back in the game with a three-run fourth. Kaden Fearday reached on an error, and then with two outs, Logan Antrim delivered an RBI single. Colton Fearday followed with another base hit and Eli Moore capped the inning with a two-run double to cut the deficit to 5-3.
The Shoes added a little more cushion with two runs in the fifth. Mitch Hemmen singled and scored on Wermert’s second RBI double of the game. Wermert then went to third on a passed ball and scored on a fly ball by Evan Addis.
Schwerdt made sure that was enough. He retired 9 of the final 10 batters to improve his fall record to 5-0.
Antrim took the loss for the Bulldogs. He went 4.1 innings, allowing nine hits and seven runs, with five of those being earned. He walked two and struck out eight. Colton Fearday pitched the final 2.2 innings.
The Wooden Shoes won 11 of their final 12 games and finished the fall season with a 17-3 record. They are hoping to still have the opportunity to play one more game – against North Clay at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. But that date can’t be determined until the National League playoff schedule is finalized.
The Bulldogs had their six-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 12-6. They will play Monday at Odin
