Teutopolis 49; Effingham 30
The T-Town girls used a big third quarter to pull away from Effingham in the first game Wednesday afternoon.
The Lady Shoes held a 23-16 advantage at halftime, but then went on a 14-5 run in the third period to expand the margin to 16 points, 37-21. Zoe Cremens connected on a three and five other players scored in the quarter to help THS take control.
Kaitlyn Schumacher and Cremens tied for game scoring honors with 11 points apiece. Emily Konkel helped the Lady Shoes to a 27-16 rebounding edge, pulling down 10.
Ella Niebrugge led the Lady Hearts with eight points, while Madison Mapes added seven.
Effingham 66; Charleston 23
After a slow first period, the Lady Hearts exploded during the next eight minutes, en route to the 43-point victory, 66-23, over the host Charleston Lady Trojans.
Charleston actually held an 11-10 lead after the first period. But Meredith Schaefer drilled a pair of three pointers and scored 13 points, helping EHS outscore the tournament hosts 34-5 and take a commanding 44-16 lead at halftime.
Effingham then went on a 16-4 scoring run in the third period to expand the margin to 60-20.
Schaefer finished with a game-high 18 points and Sidney Donaldson came off the bench to add 12.
The Lady Hearts are 10-5 on the season. They won’t play again until Saturday, Jan. 8. They will be at home for an Apollo Conference contest with Mt. Zion.
