It will be Teutopolis vs. Newton – Round 3 – for the regional championship.

The Wooden Shoes and Eagles finalized that matchup by winning their postseason openers Wednesday night.

Top-seeded T-Town built an early double-digit lead and then rolled to a 68-36 win over Shelbyville in a semifinal game of the Class 2A Arthur Regional.

In the second semifinal, No. 4 Newton posted a 46-29 decision over Paris.

Caleb Siemer scored eight points and Max Niebrugge knocked down a three and scored five, helping the Shoes take a 19-9 lead after the first period. Brendan Niebrugge then drilled a pair of threes and tallied 10 points, as THS went on a 19-7 scoring surge in the second quarter to open a commanding 38-16 advantage at halftime.

It was still a 22-point spread, 48-26, as the teams headed to the final eight minutes.

The Shoes featured a balanced scoring attack. Brendan Niebrugge and Caleb Siemer led the way, both scoring 12 points, while Mitch Althoff scored 10 and Max Niebrugge and Dylan Pruemer both added nine.

The Shoes will take an eight-game winning streak and 23-7 overall record into the regional championship, while Newton will feature a 19-9 mark.

The two teams have met twice already this season, splitting those two games. The Eagles posted a 58-55 win over the Shoes in the Effingham-Teutopolis Christmas Classic and T-Town won 38-34 on Newton’s home floor in early February.

Tipoff in Arthur will be at 7 p.m. Friday.
