For the second time this season, the Teutopolis Lady Shoes played a strong game against Civic Memorial, but came up short.

The Lady Shoes led early, but the Lady Eagles pulled ahead in the second half and finished with a 42-34 victory Wednesday night in a semifinal game of the Scott Credit Union Girls Basketball Tournament in Highland.

T-Town led 7-5 after the opening eight minutes and was just down two points at halftime, 17-15. But Civic Memorial outscored the Lady Shoes 13-8 in the third period to open a 30-23 advantage and then made 8-of-11 free throws in the fourth quarter to secure the eight-point decision.

Anna Hall scored 20 points through three quarters and finished with a game-high 22 to lead the Lady Eagles. Kourtland Tyus was 5-for-6 from the foul stripe in the final period and had 10 points for the game.

Olivia Niemerg led Teutopolis with 11 points and Ciara Roepke added nine. Lexie Niebrugge led the Lady Shoes with eight rebounds, but was held to just one point. The THS defense forced Civic Memorial into 15 turnovers.

The Lady Eagles, the No. 2 ranked team in Class 3A, improved to 22-2 on the season, while the Lady Shoes dipped to 16-6. T-Town is ranked 8th in the Class 2A poll.

The other semifinal game is tonight between O’Fallon and Highland. The winner will play Civic Memorial at 2:30 p.m. Saturday for the tournament championship. The loser will face T-Town in the third place game Saturday at 1 p.m.
