Thursday’s cross country race at Dieterich was actually decided by the sixth runner.
After their first five runners completed the course, Teutopolis and Effingham ended in a tie. But Ben Kitten, the No. 6 finisher for the Wooden Shoes, finished four seconds ahead of the Hearts’ No. 6 runner, Jon Perry, to win the tiebreaker.
Both THS and EHS finished with 30 team points, while Dieterich was third with 66.

None of the girls teams had enough to earn a team score.
