The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes will face Newton for the regional championship.
Five different players scored a goal, leading T-Town to a 5-0 shutout Tuesday over St. Anthony in a semifinal contest of the Teutopolis Class 1A Regional.
Newton got by Altamont 1-0 in the other semifinal, setting up the championship match. The Shoes and Eagles will now play for the regional title Friday night. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Alessio Bucciarelli and Jack Poelker both scored first-half goals, and both off assists from Alex Deters, to build a 2-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, Alex Deters, Kaleb Bannick and Derek Deters added goals.
St. Anthony ended its season with an 8-12-2 record, which was an improvement over last year’s 6-9-4 mark.
“We also finished with 58 goals and 47 assists, compared to 40 goals and 21 assists last year,” said St. Anthony coach Martin Reyes. “I want to thank our seniors for their hard work and leadership.”
The Shoes improved to 15-4-2 on the season.
The Teutopolis Regional winner will advance to the Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin Sectional and face the winner of the Riverton Regional at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The Alton Marquette and Raymond Lincolnwood regional champions will also compete in the sectional.
