It stayed that way until the Lady Shoes came to bat in the sixth. With one out, Probst blasted a pitch well over the centerfield fence to put THS on the scoreboard and cut the deficit in half.
But T-Town wasn’t finished. Estella Mette and Courtney Gibson followed with back-to-back singles. Danielle Sarchet then laid down a bunt. A throwing error by the catcher allowed courtesy runner Olivia Copple to come home with the tying run and Gibson to reach third base. Erin Althoff then lifted a fly ball into center that was deep enough for Gibson to race home with the go-ahead tally.
Just like in the regional opener, the Lady Shoes had plenty of additional scoring opportunities in the game. Even though they defeated Newton on Thursday, they left eight runners stranded on the bases. They had even more chances Saturday, but stranded 10 runners – eight of those in scoring position.
THS had base runners in every inning but the third. They left the bases loaded in the second and stranded a pair of runners in the fourth and sixth. The Lady Shoes had nine hits in the game, but just couldn’t get that timely hit that could have produced more runs.
Fuller pitched all seven innings to get the win for Mt. Carmel. She gave up nine hits and three runs, while walking three and striking out two.
Probst also went the distance for Teutopolis. She allowed eight hits and four runs, while walking three and striking out seven.
The Lady Shoes finished their season with a 14-13 record.
The Lady Aces improved to 20-2. They will now host Tolono Unity in their sectional opener at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
