Lutheran North 55, Seneca 45
Lutheran North outscored Seneca 18-6 in the second quarter to take charge of the game. Bryce Spiller led the Crusaders with 21 points, while Seneca’s Paxton Giertz led all scorers with 25 points.
Lutheran North will play Oak Lawn at noon Friday, while the Fighting Irish will play Chicago Brooks at 9 a.m. Both games will be at Effingham High School.
Lincoln Way East 75, Belvidere 38
Lincoln Way East, the tournament’s defending champion, opened play with an impressive victory over Belvidere. The Griffins built a 21-7 after the first eight minutes and then used a 29-8 scoring surge in the third quarter to turn the game into a rout. Lincoln Way East had three players in double figures, led by Brent Taylor’s 16 points.
LWE will play Highland at noon Friday, while the Bucs will face Newton at 9 a.m. Both games are at Teutopolis High School.
Oak Lawn 57, Chicago Brooks 43
Oak Lawn outscored Brooks 33-19 in the middle two quarters to build the lead. Donte Montgomery pumped in 22 points to lead the Spartans, while Bryce Hayes had nine points for the Eagles.
Oak Lawn advances and will face Lutheran North at noon Friday, while Chicago Brooks will play Seneca at 9 a.m. Both games will be at Effingham High School.
Dixon 49, Charleston 42
Dixon had three players score in double figures, helping the Dukes to the first-round win. Darius Harrington had 15 points, while Austin Hicks and Cullen Shaner had 13 and 11 points respectively. Tyler Oakley led the Trojans with 11 points.
Dixon will now face Teutopolis at 1:30 p.m. Friday, while Charleston will play Pleasant Plains at 10:30 a.m. Both games will be at Teutopolis High School.
