The Effingham boys and girls competed Tuesday in the Apollo Conference Cross Country Meet, hosted by Mahomet-Seymour.
The hosts emerged as the conference champions in both the boys and the girls races. Effingham was fifth in the girls contest and the boys finished sixth.
In the girls race, Mahomet-Seymour had 37 points to narrowly defeat Mt. Zion, who finished just one point behind at 38. Charleston was third with 85, followed by Mattoon 109, Effingham, 123 and Lincoln 148. Taylorville also competed but didn’t have enough runners to earn a team score.
The host Bulldogs had an easier time in the boys meet, finishing with 33 points and well ahead of Mattoon’s 59. Taylorville was third with 92, followed by Mt. Zion 111, Charleston 115, Effingham 135 and Lincoln 176.
For the Lady Hearts, Kiley Weaver was 20th in 20:57.21; Marah Kirk 21st in 20:58.01; Nicole Schniederjon 24th in 22:00.07; Hope Monnet 28th in 23:44.4; and Daelyn Dunston 30th in 24:13.94.
Alfredo Lopez led the Effingham boys. He finished 17th in 17:43.64. Also for the Hearts, Clayton Cramsey was 26th in 18:18.09; Zeel Patel 29th in 18:47.36; Andrew Donaldson 30th in 18:52.25; and Garrett Wagoner 33rd in 19:35.77.
Effingham will participate Saturday in the St. Anthony Bulldog Classic.
