Kayla Kocher used her arm and bat Monday afternoon.

She pitched a three-hitter and then delivered a two-out RBI single in the seventh to give the Newton Lady Eagles a 3-2 win at Effingham.

The Lady Hearts jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Riley Cunningham belted a one-out solo homer. With two outs, Mya Harvey walked and Sidney Donaldson brought her home with an RBI double.

But EHS managed just one more hit the rest of the way, a one-out single by Jerzi Bierman in the sixth.

The Lady Eagles tied the game with two runs in the sixth; a rally started by Kocher’s base hit.

Kocher walked three and struck out four over seven innings. Sawyer Althoff took the loss for Effingham.

The Lady Hearts, now 2-4, are scheduled to play today (Tuesday) at Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.
