Raven Morrison scattered four hits and Emma Loncor drove in three runs, helping the Mattoon Lady Green Wave post a 7-1 victory Wednesday afternoon over Effingham in an opening-round game of the Class 3A Regional.

The Lady Hearts ended their season with a 15-11 record.

Mattoon scored what proved to be enough runs in the opening inning when Loncor delivered a two-out, two-run double.

Effingham narrowed the gap to 2-1 in the fourth. Jaidi Davis led off with a base hit and Jacy Boatman added another hit with one out. Davis eventually scored on a wild pitch.

The only other hits for EHS were a one-out double by Grace Bushur in the third and a lead-off double by Boatman in the seventh.

The Lady Green Wave pulled away with a four-run fifth, combining three walks, two hits and a hit batter. Tinley Risinger had a two-run single and Loncor added an RBI single in the inning. Mattoon added a final tally in the sixth.

Morrison walked just one and struck out eight in her seven-inning, 82-pitch performance.

Davis took the loss for Effingham. She gave up eight hits and seven runs, while walking six and striking out two.

Mattoon will now play at top-seeded Charleston Friday. The regional title game will begin at 4:30 p.m.
