The Effingham Lady Hearts got their week started on a winning note Monday, posting a 7-2 tennis win at Mt. Zion.

“This was a great start to our week; a solid performance all around by the girls,” said EHS coach Erik Williamson. “It’s a busy week with Homecoming, plus our schedule.”

No. 1 singles: Caroline Kull (E) defeated Michelle Roberts (MZ), 7-5, 6-1; No. 2 singles: Riley Arend (E) defeated Caroline Baker (MZ), 6-1, 6-3; No. 3 singles: Lydia Kull (E) defeated Alexis Mallory (MZ), 6-1, 6-0; No. 4 singles: Riley Seachrist (E) defeated Sage Lauper-Cook (MZ), 6-1, 6-2; No. 5 singles: Eden Wendling (E) defeated Anna Brunner (MZ), 6-2, 6-1; No. 6 singles: Allison Bradford (MZ) defeated Chloe Aden (E), 6-2, 6-1; No. 1 doubles: C. Kull/Arend (E) defeated Roberts/Frommelt (MZ), 6-2, 2-6, 10-8; No. 2 doubles: Baker/Lauper-Cook (MZ) defeated L. Kull/Wendling (E), 7-5, 3-6, 14-12; No. 3 doubles: Gracie Kroenlein/Aila Woomer (E) defeated Al. Bradford/Au. Bradford (MZ), 6-0, 6-0.

The Lady Hearts will play at home Thursday at Casey-Westfield and will then try to defend their title in the Apollo Conference Tournament, which is scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Charleston.
