The Apollo Conference Tennis Tournament opened Friday in Charleston and the Effingham Lady Hearts played well.
All three of the EHS doubles teams – Caroline Kull/Riley Arend, Lydia Kull/Riley Seachrist and Gracie Kroenlein/Aila Woomer – reached the championship game and placed second.
Here are the Effingham results:
No. 1 doubles – C. Kull/Arenda defeated Roberts/Frommelt (Mt. Zion), 6-4, 4-6. 6-3; and then lost to Stortzum/Huene (Mattoon), 3-6, 2-6.
No. 2 doubles – L. Kull/Seachrist defeated the team from Mahomet-Seymour, 6-3, 6-4, and Baker/Lauper-Cook (Mt. Zion), 6-2, 6-3; and the lost to Niemerg/Davis (Mattoon), 0-6, 1-6.
No. 3 doubles – Kroenlein/Woomer beat Bradford/Bradford (Mt. Zion), 6-4, 6-2; and the lost to Ashmore/Garza (Mattoon), 5-7, 6-4, 5-7.
The singles competition will be held Saturday, also in Charleston, beginning at 9 a.m.
