On Friday, T-Town lost 13-25, 13-25 to Normal U High and then dropped a 16-25, 16-25 decision to Hermann.

The Lady Hearts were defeated 21-25, 10-25 by McCracken and then lost 23-25, 9-25 to Glenbard West.

On Saturday, the Lady Shoes defeated Ursuline 16-25, 25-19, 15-13 and then beat Massac County 25-21, 25-12 to reach the finals of the Bronze Flight. They were then beaten by Libertyville 25-19, 25-17.

Effingham opened Saturday’s play with a marathon victory. The Lady Hearts survived by a 34-32 score in the opening game. After dropping a 12-25 decision, they bounced for a 15-12 win over Bloomington. EHS then lost to Libertyville, 17-25, 10-25, but came back to beat Windsor/Stew-Stras 25-21, 25-19 to capture fifth place.

For the Lady Shoes in the tournament, Kelsey Deters had 161 sets, 58 assists; Holly Heuerman 29 digs, 45 service, 2 aces, 18 points; Carly Michels 16 digs, 34 kills; Erica Michels 14 digs, 33 kills; Ciara Roepke 16 digs, 13 kills; and Emily Konkel 3 blocks, 3 digs, 13 kills.

“We had a pretty rough start to the weekend,” said THS coach Tim Mills. “Both Normal U High and Hermann hammered us pretty good. We actually played with both teams for a while, but our serving and serve receive completely collapsed.

“Saturday began on the same trend as we dropped the first set to Ursuline,” Mills added. “Our ball control didn’t allow us to get into our offense until late in the first set. The girls did a great job of pulling it together after that. We played solid defense and our offense began to click. Overall, I thought we did pretty well. The competition was tough, but we got better with each match.”

For Effingham, Eliza Montgomery had 3 kills; Taylor O’Dell 9 assists, 3 digs; Hayley Diveley 6 kills, 70 assists, 1 ace, 21 digs, 1 block; Alexis Chrappa 34 kills, 2 aces, 29 digs, 3 blocks; Kennedy Sowell 10 kills, 4 digs, 3 blocks; Sam Urch 29 kills, 4 aces, 9 digs, 5 blocks; Jacy Boatman 21 kills, 2 assists, 6 aces, 31 digs, 2 blocks; Callie Feldhake 2 kills, 3 assists, 2 aces, 15 digs, 1 block; Morgan Hagler 7 digs; and Olivia Martin 2 kills, 37 digs.

Effingham will play at Teutopolis tonight (Monday).
