Effingham, St. Anthony and Teutopolis will all be represented in the sectional cross country meets on Saturday.
All three girls teams performed well enough in the regional to advance, as did the St. Anthony and T-Town boys teams. In addition, Effingham’s Alfredo Lopez also earned a berth in the sectional.
The Lady Shoes were fourth overall in the Robinson Class 1A Regional, finishing with 111 team points. Marshall was the regional champion with 23 points. St. Anthony also qualified by tying for seventh place with 153 points. The top eight teams advanced to the sectional.
For T-Town, Jessica Runde finished fourth with a time of 19:09. Tory Tensen was 13th in 20:25; Abby Bloemer 25th in 21:23; Ella Zumbahlen 33rd in 22:37; and Katie Kingery 36th in 22:41.
Freshman Rilie Willenborg led St. Anthony with a 16th place finish. She was clocked in 20:39. Katherine Slaughter was 22nd in 21:16; Riley Guy 23rd in 21:22; Audrey Niebrugge 44th in 23:31; and Jessica Wilson 48th in 24:19.
Altamont’s Gia Sandoval also qualified for the sectional after finishing 22nd in 21:05.
Teutopolis and St. Anthony will now run in the St. Anthony Sectional. It is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mid America Motorworks course.
The Effingham Lady Hearts will be running in the Decatur MacArthur Sectional. They qualified by finishing sixth at the Mattoon Regional.
Mt. Zion won the team title with 27 points. The Lady Hearts had 126.
Kiley Weaver was 19th in 22:15; Marah Kirk 20th in 22:16; Nichole Schneiderjon 23rd in 23:01; Daelyn Dunston 30th in 24:26; and Hope Monnet 34th in 25:02.
The sectional will be run at the Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur. It will start at 10 a.m.
St. Anthony was second and Teutopolis fifth in the boys regional Saturday, also held in Robinson.
The host Maroons won the regional with 37 points. The Bulldogs finished with 62, while the Shoes had 143.
Brian Dust had a terrific race for St. Anthony, finishing second with a time of 16:06. Noah Tegeler was also in the top 10, running ninth in 17:00. Also for the Bulldogs, Ty Wiedman was 14th in 17:24; Griffen Elder 17th in 17:37; and Conlan Walsh 20th in 17:43.
Cole Probst had T-Town’s best race, finishing 18th in 17:39. Ethan Weidner was 26th in 17:58; Brody Mette 30th in 18:13; Jack Waldhoff 31st in 18:18; and Benjamin Kitten 38th in 18:50.
St. Anthony and Teutopolis will now run in the St. Anthony Sectional Saturday at Mid America Motorworks. The boys race will start at 11 a.m.
The Effingham boys competed in the Mattoon Class 2A Regional and finished 9th with 224 points. Centralia was the overall winner with 42 points.
Lopez will represent EHS in the sectional. He finished 30th with a time of 18:55.
The Decatur MacArthur Class 2A Sectional will be at the Hickory Point Golf Course. The boys race will begin at 11 a.m.
