St. Anthony’s Brian Dust is headed to the state cross country meet.
The junior runner earned that trip by finishing 10th overall at the Effingham St. Anthony Class 1A Sectional, which was ran at Mid America Motorworks. Dust was clocked in 16:44.34.
Monticello was the big team winner Saturday, capturing both the boys and girls sectional titles.
The Sages topped the 22-team field with 42 total team points. The Bulldogs finished 8th overall with 252 points and Teutopolis was 18th with 444 points.
The Lady Sages took first place with 53 team points. The Lady Shoes were 13th overall with 376 and the Lady Bulldogs were 17th with 435 points. There were 21 teams entered in the girls sectional field.
Dust will run in the Class 1A State Meet Saturday at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
For the Bulldogs, in addition to Dust, Ty Wiedman was 56th in 18:06.48; Conlan Walsh 59th in 18:09.1; Noah Tegeler 63rd in 18:13.47; and Griffen Elder 64th in 18:14.06.
For T-Town, Ethan Weidner was 71st in 18:26.2; Cole Probst 77th in 18:35.57; Brody Mette 97th in 19:27.93; Jack Waldhoff 99th in 19:37.51; and Matthew Deters 100th in 19:39.58.
Jessica Runde was the Lady Shoes top runner, finishing 46th in 20:59.6. In addition, Tory Tensen was 63rd in 22:01.48; Abby Bloemer 80th in 23:13.95; Ella Zumbahlen 93rd in 24:01.42; and Katie Kingery 94th in 24:03.62.
For St. Anthony, Rilie Willenborg was 56th in 21:31.79; Riley Guy 72nd in 22:29.88; Katherine Slaughter 77th in 22:51.21; Audrey Niebrugge 114th in 25:32.51; and Jessica Wilson 117th in 25:39.7.
Altamont’s Gia Sandoval also competed in the sectional. She had a time of 22:19.36.
