Lady Bulldogs headed to sectional; Effingham’s Boehm, T-Town’s Bushue also qualifies

The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs turned in a solid performance Wednesday afternoon, placing second in the Class 1A Mt. Carmel Regional Golf Tournament.

The host Lady Aces captured the regional crown with a team total of 313 strokes. The Lady Bulldogs were runner-up in the 12-team field with a 327 total. Effingham was third at 375 and the Lady Shoes fifth at 406.

St. Anthony will now advance to the Salem Sectional, which will be played Monday, Oct. 10.

Macy Ludwig turned in the top 18-hole round for the Lady Bulldogs, firing a 77 and finishing fourth overall. Lauren Schwing shot 82, Reagan Westendorf 83 and Nina Hakman 85 to complete the team score. Ellie Wegman (85) and Morgan Schuette (93) also competed.

Ava Boehm fired a 74 to place third overall and will represent the Lady Hearts at the sectional. Anna Sigg finished with an 89, Annie Frost 104 and Ella Niebrugge 108 to complete the scoring. Anna Hirtzel (112) and Marah Kirk (121) also played.

Averie Bushur paced T-Town with an 88 and will also play in the next week’s sectional. Lexie Niebrugge shot 102, Abigail Wortman 104 and Mollie Koester 112 for the Lady Shoes. Alaina Helmink (116) and Josie Deters (131) also competed.

Effingham blanks Shelbyville

Effingham had little trouble disposing of Shelbyville Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Hearts didn’t lose a set and won 13 sets without dropping a single game, en route to a 9-0 victory.

The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs swept all six singles matches on their way to an 8-1 victory Wednesday afternoon over Newton.
