Thursday night, it was Lucy Fearday’s turn to have a big game.
The junior post player turned in an impressive double-double, pumping in 32 points and pulling down 11 rebounds to help the St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs run away for a 63-31 victory at Newton in the regular season finale.
Fearday scored eight points in the opening quarter, but the Lady Bulldogs only held a slim 10-8 lead. But that gap started to widen in the second period. Five different players scored, helping SAHS go on a 16-8 scoring surge and build a 26-16 cushion by halftime.
St. Anthony increased its lead to 42-23 after three quarters, and with Fearday scoring 15 points in the final eight minutes, the Lady Bulldogs closed the game on a 21-8 run to finish with the 32-point victory.
Abbi Hatton also had a double-double, recording 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the regular season on a roll. They have won 12 of their last 13 games and are now 20-9 overall. They will now enter postseason play and compete in the Class 1A Toledo (Cumberland) Regional. They are the No. 2 seed and will face either Casey-Westfield or Dieterich at 6 p.m. Monday.
