Champaign Centennial 69, Lutheran North 45

The Champaign Centennial Chargers built an early lead and then outscored Lutheran North 37-20 in the second half, en route to a 69-45 win and a berth in the tournament championship.

The Chargers led 22-12 after the opening eight minutes and 32-25 at intermission. They outscored the Crusaders 19-8 in the third period to take control.

Jadin Schilb paced Centennial with a game-high 28 points, while Berry Benson had 13 for Lutheran North.

The Chargers will face Lincoln Way East in the finals, set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Lutheran North will play Dixon at 6 p.m. for third place. Both games will be at Effingham High School.

 

Charleston 66, Belvidere 59

Charleston notched its first win of the tournament by posting a 66-59 decision over Belvidere.

Luke Bonstetter led the Trojans with 16 points, while Luke Nelson added 10. Belvidere’s Jason Dean led all scorers with 21 points.

Charleston will face Seneca at 11:30 a.m. in the auxiliary gym at EHS. Belvidere will play Effingham at 10 a.m., also in the auxiliary gym.

 

Mattoon 42, Chicago Brooks 32

The Mattoon Green Wave used a big second half to erase a halftime deficit and post a 42-32 win over Chicago Brooks.

The Eagles held a slim 22-21 edge at intermission, but Mattoon outscored the Chicago team 21-10 over the final two quarters.

Bryce Jean had 12 points and Colton Smith 11 for the Green Wave, while Elijah Curl paced Brooks with 15 points.

Mattoon will play Newton for the consolation championship Saturday. That game is set for 4:30 p.m. Chicago Brooks will now face Pleasant Plains in the 11th place game at 10 a.m. Both games will be at Effingham High School.

 

Newton 53, Pleasant Plains 29

Newton outscored Pleasant Plains 34-12 over the middle two quarters, en route to a 53-29 victory.

The Eagles got 17 points from Dylan Gier and 10 from Caden Nichols. Luke Bowsher led Pleasant Plains with seven points.

Newton will face Mattoon in the consolation championship at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Pleasant Plains will play Chicago Brooks at 10 a.m. Both games will be at Effingham High School.
