The St. Anthony Bulldogs used a big scoring run in the second quarter Friday night to pull away, en route to a 62-30 victory at home over St. Elmo-Brownstown.

The Bulldogs built an early 19-7 lead, but the Eagles battled back to get within 25-18 midway through the second period.

But that’s when St. Anthony caught fire, scoring 17 unanswered points to take a commanding 42-18 lead at halftime. It was 52-25 after three periods.

The Bulldogs shot well from the field, connecting on 25-of-46 attempts, a 54 percent clip. Inside the arc, they were 24-for-34, a torrid 71 percent. They also out-rebounded SEB 31-17.

St. Anthony had three players in double figures. Seth Hotze led the way with 13 points, while Grant Nuxoll scored 12 and Craig Croy added 11.

St. Anthony improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the National Trail Conference. They will be back in action today (Saturday), facing cross-town rival and undefeated Effingham. The varsity game will begin at approximately 6 p.m.
