Teutopolis avenged one of its losses of the fall season Wednesday afternoon by posting a 9-1 win at home over North Clay.

The Cardinals entered the contest undefeated at 7-0, including a 9-8 win over the Shoes on August 31.

But Wednesday was all T-Town. The Shoes banged out 11 hits, scored in every inning but one and received a strong pitching performance. That combination resulted in the eight-run decision.

Trenton Schwerdt went the first five innings to get the win. The senior right-hander allowed just three hits and the one run, while walking two and striking out six. Luke Ungrund pitched the final two innings. He didn’t allow a baserunner and struck out three.

Eight different batters got hits in the game for Teutopolis, including two by Ungrund, Schwerdt and Matt Deters. Mitch Hemmen drove in three runs.

In the first, Ungrund singled, Schwerdt doubled and Hemmen brought the run home with a ground out. Evan Addis singled to lead off the second and eventually scored on a passed ball. Hemmen had an RBI single in the third and Brock Deters singled and scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to stake the Shoes to a 4-1 lead.

T-Town then secured the victory with a five-run sixth. Ungrund and Mitch Hardiek had RBI singles, Matt Deters had a run-scoring double, Hemmen drove in his third run with a ground out and another scored on a wild pitch.

The Shoes, who improved to 8-2, will host Dieterich today (Thursday) and then play Friday at Woodlawn.
