The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes traveled to St. Joseph on Saturday and split a pair of games.
In the opener, the St. Joe-Ogden Spartans banged out 10 hits, en route to a 12-2, five-inning victory.
In the second game, the Shoes bounced back to beat Lisle 7-2.
In the first game, SJO took an 2-0 lead in the opening inning, but the Shoes came back to tie it in the third. Sam Bushur led off with a base hit and scored on a double by Derek Konkel. A ground ball by Dylan Pruemer drove in Konkel with the tying run.
But the Spartans then scored six runs in the bottom of the third and added two tallies in both the fourth and fifth.
Kayden Althoff was the starting pitcher for THS and took the loss. He allowed just one hit, but walked five and allowed six runs in his two innings of work. Ben Goeckner and Cade Buehnerkemper also pitched.
The Shoes used a five-run sixth inning to take control against Lisle. They held a slim 2-1 edge entering the sixth, but then combined five hits and four walks to cross the plate five times. Pruemer, Mitch Althoff and Joey Ruholl each singled to load the bases. One run scored on a fielder’s choice, two came home on a double by Bushur and the final two tallies came home on bases loaded walks.
Bushur pitched the first four innings and got the win. He gave up just one hit and one run. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out three. Caleb Siemer pitched the final three innings.
T-Town is now 4-2 this spring. The Shoes will play today (Monday) at Effingham. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
