The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes got their final tune-up before the postseason by splitting a doubleheader Saturday at Williamsville.
In the opener, Derek Konkel belted a pair of solo home runs, while Sam Bushur and Kayden Althoff both had three hits, leading the Shoes to an 11-5 win.
The Rockets managed a split by scoring a run in the seventh to tie the game and then getting a walk-off, game-winning single by Kyle Griffith in the 10th that provided the hosts a 5-4 victory.
The Shoes broke out on top early in the first game and were never headed. They scored three runs in both the first and second innings and added a single tally in the third to build a 7-0 lead. Williamsville got within 7-3 and 9-5, but no closer.
In the first inning, Sam Bushur, who continued his hot hitting with three more hits, led things off with a single. Kayden Althoff followed with a base hit and Mitch Althoff got THS on the scoreboard with an RBI single. Dylan Pruemer added a sacrifice fly and Konkel was hit by a pitch that forced in the third run.
Bushur and Cade Buehnerkemper both singled and Kayden Althoff walked to load the bases in the second. Mitch Althoff walked to force in one run and Caleb Siemer delivered a two-out hit to increase the lead to 6-0.
Konkel unloaded on a 1-1 pitch to lead off the third and smacked it over the leftfield fence. The Shoes added two more runs in the fifth, another in the sixth and Konkel then went deep again in the seventh, again over the leftfield fence.
Siemer pitched the first 3.1 innings to get the win. He allowed seven hits and three runs, while walking three and striking out three. Buehnerkemper pitched the rest of the way.
T-Town was within two outs of getting the sweep, but the Rockets staged a seventh-inning rally to tie it up. Alex Kennan got the RBI single. Then in the 10th, Hunter Moser lined a one-out triple. After the next batters were intentionally walked, Griffith came through with the game-winning hit.
Joey Niebrugge, the third THS pitcher, took the loss. Garrett Gaddis was the starter and Evan Waldhoff relieved in the fifth.
The Shoes finished the regular season with a 22-11 mark. They will now play in the Vandalia Regional and face Salem at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
