The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes scored six runs in the opening inning and then rolled to a 13-3, five-inning win Friday at home over Fairfield.
The Shoes banged out 16 hits and got outstanding relief pitching while notching their 21st win of the season.
After the Mules scored three runs in the top of the first inning, the Shoes responded immediately in the bottom of the frame. The first seven batters reached base.
Sam Bushur singled, Jonathan Kemme walked and Kayden Althoff singled to load the bases. Mitch Althoff then delivered a two-run single to get T-Town on the board. That was followed by an RBI single by Garrett Gaddis, a two-run double by Derek Konkel and Luke Koester capped the inning with a run-scoring single.
Kemme drove in a run with a base hit and Gaddis walked with the bases loaded in the second and then Bushur smacked a two-run homer in the third.
The Shoes ended the game by scoring three times in the fifth.
Konkel, who relieved with one out in the opening inning, pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball to get the win. He allowed four hits and struck out three. Cade Buehnerkemper took care of the seventh. Kayden Althoff was the starter.
The Shoes are now 21-10 on the season. They will travel to Williamsville today (Saturday) to close out the regular season. They will then play in the Vandalia Regional and play Salem at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
