Mitch Hardiek threw a one-hitter Saturday, helping the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes post their seventh straight victory and third consecutive shutout, a 10-0, six-inning decision over Cobden in the North Clay Showcase.
Hardiek allowed only a one-out single in the second inning and walks in the fourth and sixth. He struck out nine to improve to 3-0 on the fall season. The Shoes have not allowed a run in the last 19 innings.
Offensively, T-Town banged out 10 hits, with Luke Ungrund, Evan Wermert and Justin Hardiek each getting two. Ungrund, Wermert and Brady McMahon each had two RBI.
T-Town scored the only runs it needed in the first. Ungrund and Trenton Schwerdt both singled, and with two outs, Wermert drove them both home with a base hit. Wermert eventually scored on a wild pitch to stake the Shoes to an early 3-0 lead.
It became 8-0 after the second. Ungrund had an RBI double, Schwerdt drove in a run with a fly ball, another scored on an error and McMahon capped the five-run frame with a two-out, two-run single.
The Shoes scored their final two runs in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Justin Hardiek and a fly ball by Ungrund.
THS improved to 13-2 and have now outscored their opponents 54-9 during the seven-game win streak. The Shoes will play at home today (Monday) against Odin.
