The Shoes were limited to just five hits in the game and had only three baserunners through the five extra innings – one hit batter and two reached by error.

Brock Deters, the fourth THS pitcher, took the loss. He worked the final 3.1 innings. Mitch Hardiek was the starter and pitched the first four innings.

North Clay defeated Dieterich 7-5 in a first-round game to reach the championship.

Teutopolis, now 4-1 on the season, will play Monday at Altamont.

Opening Round

Teutopolis jumped out to a five-run lead and then had to hang on for a 5-4 win over St. Anthony in Saturday’s first game.

It looked liked the Shoes would take complete control early. In the first inning, THS banged out six hits and scored five times. But after that inning, the final 15 of 17 batters were retired. The Shoes didn’t have another hit. Their only two baserunners came from a walk and an error.

But that first-inning production proved to be enough.

The first four T-Town batters reached base. Luke Ungrund and Mitch Hardiek singled, Schwerdt added an RBI single and Mitch Hemmen followed with a two-run double. Evan Addis added another RBI base hit, and after a single by Justin Hardiek, Brady McMahon brought home the fifth run with a ground ball.

It stayed 5-0 until the fifth when St. Anthony started its comeback.

Colton Fearday singled and Logan Antrim walked. Jack Hoene’s base hit drove home a run and Kaden Fearday added an RBI double to make it 5-2.

In the sixth, Gavin Braunecker walked and Colton Fearday had a base hit, and then with two outs, Angelo Mendella delivered a two-run double to get the Bulldogs within 5-4.

Kaden Fearday gave St. Anthony a chance to tie the game with a one-out double in the seventh. But T-Town pitcher Hayden Ruholl retired the final two batters on ground balls to secure the win and earn the save.

Hemmen pitched the first two innings and got credit for the win. Kaden Fearday took the loss.

Third Place Game

St. Anthony had its hitting shoes on for the third place contest.

The Bulldogs collected 14 hits and scored in every inning but the first, en route to a 12-2, five-inning victory over Dieterich.

Colton Fearday and Eli Moore both had three hits and Aaron Webb drove in three runs to help St. Anthony finish 1-1 in the one-day event and improve to 2-3 overall.

The Bulldogs scored what proved to be the winning runs in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs, Colton Fearday and Moore singled. An error let the first run score and Logan Antrim followed with a two-run single to make it 3-0.

St. Anthony added a single tally in the third and then broke it open with a five-run fourth. Antrim singled and Jack Hoene walked, and both runners moved up on a double steal. Kaden Fearday then singled to bring in both runners. Later in the inning, Aaron Webb had a sacrifice fly and Gavin Braunecker and Moore both delivered run-scoring singles to make it 9-2.

The Bulldogs ended the game with a three-run fifth. Webb had a two-run single and a wild pitch allowed the final run to cross the plate.

Seth Hotze went 4.2 innings to get the win. He allowed four hits and two runs, while walking two and striking out four.

St. Anthony returns to action Wednesday with a home game against Odin.
