The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes gave up a total of 11 runs in the sixth and seventh innings Saturday, but still managed to gain a split in the two games.
T-Town built an 8-1 lead in the opener, but hung on to post a 10-8 victory over Pleasant Plains.
In the second game, Harrisburg broke open a 1-1 tie with three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to come away with a 6-1 decision.
It was all Wooden Shoes for the first four innings in the first game. T-Town tallied four times in the opening frame and then scored twice in both the third and fourth to go ahead 8-1.
In the first inning, the Shoes led 1-0 after the first three batters. Caleb Bloemer walked, Kayden Althoff got the first of his three hits and Andrew Niebrugge followed with an RBI single. Before the inning was over, one run scored on a passed ball, Logan Roepke drove in another with a sacrifice fly and Mitch Althoff added a run-scoring single.
Pleasant Plains scored a run in the top of the third, but T-Town came right back with two of their own. Hayden Ruholl drove in one with a ground ball and Roepke added an RBI double.
Niebrugge came through again in the fourth. After an error and a double by Kayden Althoff, Niebrugge delivered a two-run single to make it 8-1.
The Cardinals began their comeback with a run in the fifth and then scored three more in the sixth to close to within 8-5.
The Shoes added two big runs in the bottom of the sixth. They loaded the bases and then got a sacrifice fly off the bat of Evan Addis and scored their final run on an error.
Pleasant Plains made it close with a three-run seventh. Two runs scored on balks and another on a fly ball. But Caleb Siemer came to get a fly ball for the final out and earn the save.
Addis was the starter and got the win. He went the first 4.1 innings, allowing just three hits and two runs. He struck out seven and walked one. Ruholl and Ben Goeckner also pitched.
The Shoes had an 11-hit attack. In addition to Kayden Althoff’s three hits, Bloemer and Niebrugge also had a pair.
The second game was a tight one through the first five innings. Harrisburg scored a run in the top of the first and made that stand up until the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth, Sam Bushur reached on an error to start the inning. With two outs, Niebrugge drew a walk and Addis singled on an 0-2 pitch to tie the game at 1-1.
But Harrisburg took over from the there. The Bulldogs scored three times in the sixth, two of those scoring on a two-run homer by Javie Beal. They added two more tallies in the sixth to clinch the five-run victory.
Niebrugge started for the Shoes and went the first 3.2 innings. Dylan Pruemer relieved in the fourth, pitched two innings and took the loss.
