The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes took advantage of two errors to push across the winning run and finish with a 6-5 win Thursday at home over Altamont.
The game was tied 5-5 when the Shoes came to bat in the bottom of the seventh. Kayden Althoff led off and reached on the first error and Evan Wermert walked. Andy Niebrugge then hit a hard ground ball that was misplayed and allowed Althoff to race home with the game winner.
The Shoes had to rally from an early 3-0 deficit. And they didn’t dent the scoreboard until the fifth.
Evan Addis led off with a base hit, followed by a walk to Dylan Pruemer and a single by Derek Deters to load the bases. With two outs, Sam Bushur came through with a base hit up the middle to drive in two and cut the lead to 3-2.
T-Town then tacked on three more runs in the sixth. Niebrugge started the rally with a base hit and Addis then ripped a double to drive in the tying run. Pruemer put the Shoes on top with an RBI double and Logan Roepke capped the inning with a run-scoring single to give THS a 5-3 lead.
But Altamont came back to tie the game in the top of the seventh. Mason Robinson reached on an error and Brennyn Abendroth followed with a double. Both runners eventually scored on ground outs.
The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the second. Jared Hammer and Bradin Baucum both walked, and with two outs, Brayden Stuemke delivered a two-run single. Altamont then put together three straight singles to make it 3-0 in the third, with Baucum getting the RBI hit.
Deters, the third Teutopolis pitcher, got the win. He worked one inning. Cade Buehnerkemper pitched the first six innings, allowing seven hits and three runs, while walking two and striking out seven. Mitch Althoff started the seventh and allowed two runs.
Mason Winn relieved in the sixth and took the loss, giving up the unearned run in the seventh. Kaden Eirhart went the first 5.2 innings. He allowed eight hits and five runs, while walking two and striking out eight.
Both teams are now 12-4 on the season.
The Shoes will return to action at home Saturday. They will host Mt. Zion in an Apollo Conference game.
